It seems the competition is heating up in the kitchen as plant-based seafood producer Atlantic Natural Foods has been denied entrance to the annual Seafood Expo North America in Boston this March. Their fishless canned seafood and other innovations must be a serious threat to investment heavy traditional seafood farmers such as RAS and Open Net Pen operations.
The sharks are circling reports IntraFish with talk of anti-trust lawsuits, violations of first amendment rights and even the Sherman Antitrust Act.
Current forms of aquaculture suffer from many problems and the holy grail has yet to be uncovered. This leaves the door wide open to new and innovative ways to feed a hungry world in times of change and turmoil and it appears that playing fair is not always as sustainable as the aquaculture industry would like us to think.
