undercurrentNews is reporting today that a new report by the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) claims unsustainable fishing compounds climate change’s impacts on reefs.
The undercurrentNews article interestingly seems to imply the major problem is “To increase coral resilience to locked-in climate change, illegal and unsustainable fishing must be stopped. EJF’s ;’charter for transparency’ in the fishing industry outlines the simple, cost-effective, logistically and politically deliverable mechanisms”. And Yes, that is one of the points but it is made on page 11.
In reading the whole report and noting the first of EJF’s Recommendations “All countries must rapidly and fully implement the global climate change agreement established in Paris in December 2015, raising their emission reduction pledges over time, keeping the global temperature below 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.”
Due to RAS’s inherently heavy carbon footprint this report should provide another reason to think garden peas, quinoa, rice, lentils, hemp seeds, spirulina, chia seeds, beans and nuts for protein. AND definately not RAS farmed salmon.
